Types of Driveway
There is a huge variety of materials that can be used for driveway construction. The materials range from black asphalt to crushed seashells. The material you choose will probably depend on several factors such as cost, durability and appearance, these factors can have an impact on the process and pressure we can use.

Asphalt may need more than just a wash to get the most impact
Asphalt driveways can be cheaper than concrete although they may require more money for future maintenance – an asphalt driveway is likely to need resealing every 2-5 years. Asphalt driveways can last around 15-30 years compared to 40 years for one made of concrete. However, concrete is less flexible than asphalt and may crack in very cold conditions, while asphalt is vulnerable to extreme heat.
In the case of tarmac surfaces, it is possible to not only just pressure wash these surfaces to clean them, but also to treat them with a restoring agent. In the photograph sequence shown below, it is seen how a cleaned tarmac driveway can be brought back to nearly new condition, without the expense of relaying it with fresh tarmac.
DM Cleaning Services can do more than just wash we can apply an asphalt emulsion (water based) environmentally friendly sealer designed to make tarmac driveway’s and surfaces look as good as new by restoring their color at a fraction of the cost of replacement. The before and after pictures gives a direct comparison of the surface, before and after treatment. A range of colors are available for the tarmac renovation so customers can choose which is their preference.
Block Paving
Using blocks gives you the option of creating an attractively patterned driveway. Many people prefer the appearance of block paving over plain concrete or asphalt, and so although it can be more expensive this might be worth considering if you are interested in increasing the value of your home.
The structure of a block paving driveway gives it flexibility. This allows the driveway to move with the ground, reducing cracking. And any blocks that get damaged or stained can be lifted out and replaced, making maintenance easier.
Brick & Paver Driveways
Cleaning block, brick, or masonry driveways is often a two-step process. If there are weeds on or between the paving blocks, they should be removed prior to applying weed killer. This is best accomplished on a dry day when no rain is forecast. It is important to take note of the runoff location to prevent poisoning your lawn or garden. Ridding the area of weeds will also help prevent the growth of algae and moss on the pavers.
Frequent pressure washing isn’t advised since the pressure can dislodge the joints. If a pressure washer is used, the angle should be maintained at 45 degrees.
Acidic cleaners should be avoided to prevent damaging the surface of the pavers. Scrubbing with a mild detergent is recommended.
Sealing*: We only offer a drive sealing service during summer months due to the need of dry conditions, booking in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment.
When cleaning brick/block driveways if we slightly remove the joint sand* we are happy to re-sand once we finish although this may have to be on a separate day as it needs to be completely dry.
Removal of joint sand*: This is somewhat unavoidable and is very much dependent on how well the drive was laid to begin with. it is also dependent on how well it has been maintained over the years. We are happy to re-sand your drive intact we recommend it in conjunction with spraying the drive with a weed killer on completion. Some customers who are selling go for the cheaper quick fix option of just a wash.

Because of this, quotes are not set in stone as a picture can’t show issues that the dirt may be hiding. On arrival we will conduct an inspection and confirm any additional cost as options you may wish to take or leave.
